The Early Years...
Tamer’s love for riding started in 2001 at age 13. Riding his friends’
dirtbikes in the neighborhood trails was the only hook he needed. When the time came to buy his first motorcycle, Tamer decided to go with an unconventional option, the minimoto. Extremely popular among Europe’s aspiring grand prix riders starting as young as 3 years old, the minimoto was the pathway Italian and Spanish riders took into grand prix racing. Valentino Rossi, Loris Capirossi, Dani Pedrosa and Marco Melandri are just a few of the riders that started on a minimoto and found their way to the top in MotoGP.
The racing started almost instantly after Tamer got his first minimoto, as riding around the neighborhood grew old, very fast.
Michigan had a quickly growing minimoto racing circuit, the Michigan MiniMoto Racing League (MMMRL). The MMMRL raced at go-kart tracks across eastern Michigan and northern Ohio. Tamer’s first motorcycle was the Polini 911 Dreambike. Hand made in Italy, the Polini 911 was a 6.2hp 40cc two-stroke production class minimoto. Depending on gearing and the track, the bike could hit speeds of 45mph+. Tamer quickly learned the basics of riding, learned a lot from his fellow, older racers and raced a few National Races with the United States Minimoto Grand Prix (USMGP). It was time to look to move up.
The Middle Years…
In 2004, at age 16, Tamer purchased a 1996 Honda RS125.
The two-stroke grand prix machine was the next logical step forward. Unfortunately, Tamer was only able to race one season on the 125GP bike. At the end of the 2004 season Tamer apprehensively sold the Honda and took a 2 year break from riding. In the spring of 2006 Tamer got bit by the riding bug again and purchased a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6, riding mainly on the street for most of the spring and summer. However, it only felt natural for Tamer move towards track riding, and he did in late summer doing a few track days at GingerMan and Grattan Raceways.
From then on Tamer bought and sold a few different street bikes and did a mix of street and track riding, not sure when to take the plunge into racing. In the spring of 2009, Tamer lost his 2006 Suzuki GSX-R600 in an accident. The insurance check gave him the option of buying a fully setup race bike. And that was exactly what he did, purchasing a very well setup 2006 Yamaha YZF-R6v.
Present day…
Tamer was now locked into track only riding, and was fully addicted. The season consisted of 13 track days, 1 racing school and 2 race weekends at the end of the summer. Tamer did well, always starting at the back of the grid and moving forward throughout the race. Tamer’s 2009 Season ended on a high note, earning his full Novice racing license with WERA. For 2010 with the help of his sponsors, Tamer looks to complete a full season in the WERA North Central Region and move up to expert status for 2011.
